Wolfenstein: The Old Blood

This is a straightforward no-brain Nazi shooter. If you want something to zone out to that requires practically no thinking, this is great. I mean, none of it makes the slightest bit of sense, but who cares. It's a short game that packs quite a lot in; castle corridor shooting, vehicle sections, fire zombie Nazis, village scenery and graveyards. It took rather an unexpected turn when the zombies started showing up (I'd had this in my library for ages and didn't read about it before playing) but it's not like the game really made any sense to start with. Finished in about 5 hours, so don't buy it full price.

Pros

  • Good fast paced gunplay
  • Difficulty settings if you don't want to have to think
  • Good voices and sound effects
  • Looks great (and it's from 2015)
  • Plenty of stealth if you want to, or just go in all guns blazing
  • Has a fun wall climbing mechanic
  • Who doesn't love dual wielding guns
  • I like that it's short and doesn't go on for too long
  • Good voice acting (apart from the British guy who shows up in the last 2 minutes, who just feels like he's being force-fed stereotype hero sentences)

Cons

  • Not really a con for this genre, but it's a mindless shooter. If that's what you're looking for, great.
  • Switching between the many different weapons during combat is cumbersome and often got me killed
  • If you have multiple monitors, your mouse is invisible but still clicks on things and scrolls other windows while playing
  • Last boss was confusing - doesn't really give any indication whether you're damaging it or not
