Titanfall 2

Titanfall 2 is the most enjoyable single player FPS campaign I've played for a very long time. It's short, so if you're only buying the game for the single player (which I did), make sure you get it on sale. I finished it in about 5 hours. I guess things haven't changed much in the last 6 years, because the graphics and gameplay both feel very modern. The campaign takes you through about 9 missions, and they're all pretty varied in level design, environment and mechanics. The voice acting is excellent, and the shooting experience is excellent both on foot and when you're riding a titan. I gather EA ruined the game's launch, which is a shame because this deserves a lot of attention.

Pros

  • Giant talking robots
  • It's beautiful
  • Great parkour mechanics using wall running and double jumps
  • Fantastically smooth shooting experience
  • Steam achievements, even though it's an Origin game
  • Your titan can switch between weapon loadouts at any time to suit the situation
  • Well balanced mix between on-foot missions and time in the titan
  • Voice acting and writing are great
  • Good, varied level design. Each level feels very different, and often has some interesting mechanic, like being able to time travel between the old in-tact and a modern destroyed facility, mid-air ship battles, and one-off special weapons

Cons

  • There's no intro for people who didn't play or don't remember Titanfall 1
  • Requires EA Origin
  • On normal difficulty, all the boss fights were over in less than 10 seconds - only the final boss was any kind of challenge
