The Entropy Centre

The Entropy Centre is Portal with a different mechanic. Wake up in a derelict testing facility run by an AI, find a magic gun that manipulates reality, progress through puzzle rooms. I am stunned that it's made by one developer; it's an amazing achievement. Graphically it looks like Control, feels polished and has good voice acting. Your magic gun can rewind objects through time. You use this for two things: solving puzzles with cubes by rewinding their position in space and progressing through story sections, mainly by rewinding an object's state (repairing them) like collapsing stairwells and structural supports. I couldn't finish it, but I appreciate how good it is.

Pros

  • Really well polished
  • Looks amazing
  • Nice voice acting
  • Mechanics were easy to grasp. Eventually my brain worked out that the primary mechanic meant that I needed to get the objects to do the puzzle in reverse - working out where things needed to be at the end, then rewind them through as I went through the room
  • I really enjoyed the story sections - actually more than the puzzles

Cons

  • The story actually ended up not making any sense, and the end of the game felt like kind of a let down compared to what I was expecting

Notes

Although I really appreciate the puzzle mechanics, how polished it is, and especially how it was made by a single developer - my lifestyle doesn't really allow for my free time to be full of mind bending mechanics at the moment, so I got to Act 9 before I couldn't really cope with the rewind mechanics anymore and watched the rest of the story sections on YouTube. If you have the patience, I can really recommend trying this out; I enjoyed it for about 7 hours.
