SteamWorld Dig 2

The third fantastic game from Image & Form. It's a perfect blend of platforming, mining and metroid. The controls are tight, the level design and dialogue is great, and it's a really satisfying mix between exploring and upgrading. Practically no backtracking and loads of content. This game bridges the first SteamWorld Dig game with SteamWorld Heist (and explains how they got in to space). Cannot recommend highly enough - looking forward to more from this studio. I played through the entire game in two sessions, which is incredibly rare for me.

Pros

  • Better graphics
  • Bigger town
  • You can toggle quest markers on and off
  • The map shows things from your visual range, not just what you mined
  • Instead of selling ore for XP, enemies now give XP, and levels increase the bonus you receive for selling ore
  • All gear can now be modded with cogs you find. Mods can be changed at any time
  • The drill has been replaced with a jackhammer, which is way cooler
  • Lots of secrets to find
  • Water pools are infinite now
  • Water, light and health all refill automatically when you go back to the surface
  • GRAPPLING HOOK!

Cons

  • Minecart puzzles
