Necesse

Necesse feels very similar to Terraria in terms of progression, and is superior to Core Keeper in practically every way except graphics. It's a game about mining, upgrading gear, base building and light colony simulation. There's a huge overworld which is connected to an underworld (and an under underworld), and you can move between the two freely. 2D combat is decent, with 4 different combat styles. There's a massive ton of decorative elements and structural materials for base building, and exploration is really rewarding.

Pros

  • The entire world has an above and below - and you can create ladders between the two anywhere
  • There are different trees that all drop specific kinds of wood, rather than just "wood" and they all have their own furniture
  • Has craft from nearby chests, and quick stack to nearby chests
  • Handmade dungeons to explore
  • In addition to the mix of Core Keeper / Terraria gameplay, you can also create settlements, hire villagers, create bedrooms and crafting rooms, and create zones for them to work in, with priorities
  • Way more content than Core Keeper
  • Lots of different gear sets and crafting materials

Cons

  • I hate character movement with acceleration
  • In Core Keeper, if you explore the map while you've got an item on that lights up an area, it uncovers the map. Here, the map only uncovers if you put torches down, which makes the items that light up a lot less fun as you still have to use torches.
