Mining Mechs

Mining Mechs is a straightforward mine-sell-upgrade game by a single indie dev, and it's great simple fun. You dig down, mine ores, collect dirt, then return to the surface to sell them. That's pretty much it and it does get repetitive, but for €3 you really can't complain. Everything works, there's some dialogue, and a loose main quest that basically says "dig down another 100 metres" until you hit the bottom. Works great on the Steam deck, and there's lots of different mechs to play with.

Pros

  • Runs perfectly on the Steam Deck
  • You can hook up mines for a permanent passive revenue stream
  • Loads of Steam achievements
  • Cool soundtrack
  • Your mech can fly, so you don’t need to worry about fall damage or ladders
  • Mechs have upgrades to dig speed, flight speed, ore inventory and dirt storage
  • Lots of different mechs to unlock

Cons

  • The mine is based on squares, which feels kinda cheap
  • The “Load Game” button on the main menu sometimes does nothing. So when I started a new game to test something, I almost lost my original game - until I restarted the game and it worked again.
  • Every time you switch to a new mech, you have to buy all the old upgrades again
