LEGO® Star Wars™: The Skywalker Saga

For people who haven't played Lego games before - basically you play through all the Star Wars films, and everything is made out of Lego. I was very underwhelmed when I played the Lego Star Wars Complete collection a few years ago. It dumps you into the game with no intro, outdated graphics, terrible menus, and no voice acting. Thankfully in this game it’s not just the new films with the old ones tracked on; they’ve completely rebuilt the game and all the old levels; new cutscenes, added an actual game intro, added voice acting - it feels much more modern and I'm really enjoying it. There are shedloads of collectibles, and it makes for some entertaining mindless gameplay.

Pros

  • The voice actors aren’t the original ones, but some of them do a very good impression
  • You can freely rotate the camera around your character. In the last game it was in a fixed position following you around the room
  • In the last game, as there was no voice acting, you just had to know the film and guess what was going on. Now everything is voice acted it feels like an actual game
  • Lego's humour works really well in the cutscenes - I genuinely laughed multiple times, which is unusual
  • They added space flight mechanics
  • You can actually control objects with the force now rather than just pressing B to smash them
  • There is actually a tutorial for controls now
  • They added attack combos so combat is more fun
  • Lots and lots of upgrades
  • 9 classes of character with special abilities
  • Microfighter parts in each level. When you complete one, you can fly it

Cons

  • The Steam Deck struggled with FPS quite a lot even with the graphics turned down
  • It's not always clear where you're meant to go next
  • It's fixed to 60 fps on PC
  • Rey's voice line every time you start the game is really annoying
