Factorio: Space Age

Normally I wouldn't actually review an expansion on it's own, but Factorio: Space Age (and the accompanying 2.0 patch) is so good, it wins my game of the year 2024 and therefore needs its own page. I played Factorio to death and really wanted an excuse to play more (after finishing a couple of overhaul mods) and this is it. It's the perfect extension to Factorio in every way.

Pros

  • 4(?) new planets to build on, all with new research, buildings and logistics challenges. Each planet has it's own special conditions, gravity, solar power, alien threats which make you think in new ways, but they also come with new toys to play with
  • New buildings (I'm only on Vulcanus so far, but playing with molten iron and molten copper has been really interesting)
  • New music for all planets
  • Space platforms to travel between planets where you have to manage fuel, defenses, inventory space, varying solar power, and process asteroids for resources on-the-go
  • New research that can only be done on specific planets
  • Interplanetary logistics
  • New train system
  • New elevated rails and 12 degree rails
  • Re-organised tech tree. For example, cliff explosives now come from Vulcanus research - where there are tons of cliffs.
  • Powerful remote view updates
  • "Logistic Groups" is something I didn't immediately understand, but instead of just your personal logistic requests, you can now create groups of requests, and share them with everything - yourself, vehicles, rockets, trains, space platforms - saving time and reducing human error.
  • You can tell your logistics bots to automatically remove anything from your inventory that you're not requesting
