Dinkum

As far as I can tell, Dinkum is pretty much Australian Stardew Valley, but without any kind of story. It takes quite a while to get going but the more you play, the more there is to do. You start in the outback with nothing, and slowly entice specialists to join your little town, like the vendor, fisherman and museum guy. As they visit and you do jobs for them, eventually you can build them a shop/house and they'll move in. There's the same kind of crafting / refining stuff, mining and tool upgrading, but with a 3D world where you can build in any way you like. It's a little rough around the edges, but worth trying.

Pros

  • They fixed the irritating stutter that was present in early access
  • Metal detecting is actually something unique I haven't seen in other crafty games
  • Gameplay and mechanics are all unlocked with "permit points", which you get by doing daily tasks and villager jobs, so you can choose what to work on next
  • At the end of the day, the time changes to "Late" and never forcibly ends the day. Your stamina is shortened so doing anything active would be pointless, but you could keep crafting / finishing your house chores, getting home, cooking etc.
  • You can sleep until the next day at any time
  • 3D world allows you to dig up and put down earth blocks anywhere

Cons

  • You can't see an item's value when selling it
  • A little rough around the edges. Theodore just asked me to speak to Fletch about building the museum, while we were standing in the museum's entrance hall.
  • The only way to pause is to open the menu, go to the options, then click pause
  • Sometimes my stamina regenerates slower, and the game never tells you why (eventually read online that it regenerates slower in the afternoon/evening)
  • Same save system as Stardew, so if you've played almost a whole day, you lose progress unless you go to sleep
  • No craft from nearby chests. No inventory sort. No auto stack to nearby chests. No chest labels.
